Brush fire threatens homes near New Smyrna Beach

Breezy conditions linger in Central Florida

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Firefighters in Volusia County are working to put out flare-ups after a brush fire burned dangerously close to homes.

The fire started Sunday near State Road 415 and Budd Road, west of New Smyrna Beach.

In all, about 11 acres were burned, but at last check about 80 percent of the fire was contained.

No homes were damaged.

The fire threat remains high Monday in Central Florida, as breezy conditions linger.
