carjackings in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 54-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of carjacking three people outside an Orlando Publix and beating an 80-year-old woman in another carjacking attempt.

Eliud Montalvo was arrested on three counts of armed carjacking, one count of attempted carjacking, on count of armed kidnapping, two counts of aggravated battery, four counts of aggravated assault, one count of battery on an elderly victim and one count of battery.

According to Orlando police, Montalvo was carrying a knife when he tried to carjack four people in the area of Curry Ford and Conway roads, including the Publix at 4402 Curry Ford Road.

In one of the incidents, police said Montalvo battered an elderly woman, but witnesses helped fight him off.

He was arrested while fleeing the scene, police said.
