City of Orlando expands park at Lake Eola

Lake Eola nominated in America's favorite park contest

ORLANDO, Fla. – The expansion of Lake Eola's southeast corner began about six weeks ago as city officials add an acre and a half to the park just across from the playground.

It is already freshly sodded and is expected to be ready for use by 4th of July weekend.

"I think it's a beautiful expansion I think its a good place to take the kids and be able to run and just have fun," said Anissa Ruiz.

According to park manager Chris Wallace, the park's office is being moved into the one house that wasn't torn down on the block and plans are already being made for the future.

"It means they have more green space to use. Another place to throw a frisbee around, toss a ball," said Wallace. "We left the big oaks so they can lay under a tree and relax."

Lake Eola Park has been nominated as America's favorite park and it is currently 18th in the competition. You can vote for the park by clicking here.
