LONGWOOD, Fla. - One of Seminole County's historic landmarks burned down a year ago, but with a little help from science, clones are helping it live on at two parks.
The Senator, considered one of the oldest cypress trees in the world, was burned down by a woman smoking drugs inside its hollow trunk at Big Tree Park in Longwood.
A 50-foot clone of the cypress has been planted at the park, and a 60-foot clone has been placed at Reiter Park, also in Longwood.
Big Tree Park will reopen to the public March 2.
