Masked teen mistaken for creepy clown in Deltona

Witnesses say they were chased down road

DELTONA, Fla. – A masked teen who was mistaken for a creepy clown was arrested in Deltona after scaring two women as they were driving by late at night, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Oct. 10 when two women reported seeing a male dressed in all black possibly wearing a clown mask standing on Jewel Avenue. They said the teen raised what they thought was a weapon as they drove by then he and three other people who had been hiding in the woods started chasing the vehicle, deputies said.

When questioned, the 16-year-old boy told the responding deputy that he was wearing a white skull mask while walking to a friend's house with three other teenagers. He said he heard a woman scream as the vehicle drove by, but he denies chasing them down the road, according to the incident report.

The deputy didn't find any weapons on the teen, only a bag of candy and a large cellphone that he had been holding.

The teen, who is not being named because of he's a minor, was charged with wearing a mask/hood on the street and breach of peace/disorderly conduct, deputies said.

The white skull mask was submitted into evidence.
