Two on the run after deputy-involved shooting in Orange County

Incident happened on South Rio Grande Avenue

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people are on the run after a deputy-involved shooting Sunday, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

A deputy was called before 3 p.m. Sunday about shots fired at Lakeview Pointe apartments on South Rio Grande Avenue.

While speaking with an apartment security guard, the deputy heard several gunshots within "feet" of where they were standing.

The deputy witnessed two men running from the scene. The deputy said one of the men turned around in a "threatening manner" during a foot pursuit.

The deputy then fired his gun at the man "several times," authorities said. The two men kept running. There was no evidence either man was hit.

The two men ran toward the Chowder Bay apartments, which were later closed off.

Witness said there was a third person with the two men prior to the deputy arriving. A handgun was dropped by one of the men. A K-9 was not successful in tracking down the men.

The men were described by the Sheriff's Office as black men in their early 20s with a thin build, short hair and 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Deputies said it appeared no one was injured in the incident. Deputy Jeffery D. Brown, who has been with the agency for 33 years, was also not injured.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts or identities of the men is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS or to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
