Police: Man shot, killed ex-girlfriend's stepfather during domestic dispute

Dominic Neeley Jr. arrested on murder charge

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man was shot to death Sunday at the Carolina Club Apartments in Daytona Beach, police said.

The incident started around 6:20 p.m. with an argument between a man and his ex-girlfriend, identified as Dominic Neeley Jr., 21, and Chakera Fields, 20.

The disturbance took place at the home of Fields’ mother, Chaka Fields, 41, police said.

During the argument, Neeley called his mother, Pearl Hodges, 37, who came to the home, police said. When she arrived, a fight involving Hodges and Chaka Fields broke out, officers said.

Neeley went to a car, retrieved a gun and shot Anthony Fields, the husband of Chaka Fields, multiple times, police said. Anthony Fields, 44, died before he could be taken to a hospital, police said.

A witness said she heard five gunshots.

Chaka Fields was grazed by a bullet, but she is expected to survive, police said. She was taken to Halifax Hospital.

Chakera Fields suffered a black eye during the confrontation, officers said.

Neeley sped away from the scene, but was arrested on Interstate 95 in Palm Coast after a short pursuit, investigators said.

Neeley faces a murder charge.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.
