Driver sought in fatal Lake County hit-and-run crash

CLERMONT, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver who they say struck and killed a pedestrian in Clermont on Sunday night.

Aaron Zacharias, 26, of Clermont, was killed in the crash on Lakeshore Drive at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, according to troopers.

Zacharias was not in a crosswalk when he was crossing Lakeshore Drive at Preston Cove Road when he was struck, FHP said.

The driver did not stop after the crash. FHP said they found small pieces of the vehicle that appeared to be part of the Bondo body filler on the car, which was a flat black. According to the report, the vehicle may have had recent bodywork done, but a detailed vehicle description was not immediately available. 

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
