Fake roofers steal from 93-year-old woman's home, Ocoee police say

Police: Men steal woman's purse, wedding band

OCOEE, Fla. – Ocoee police said they are looking for two men who stole from a 93-year-old woman's home Tuesday while pretending to offer her roofing repair services.

Police said one of the men approached the woman at her home on Tall Maple Loop around 2:15 p.m and asked if she needed work done on her roof. While they were talking, another man came up to the woman and asked if he could borrow a bucket of hot water, officers said. Police said the woman told him he could use the sink in her garage.

The woman told the first man she did not need work done on her roof and asked that both men leave her property, police said.

Officers said the woman told them she heard the first man talk to the second through a portable radio before she saw the second man carrying the bucket he asked to borrow. The pair then left her home.

The woman went back inside to find that her purse and several pieces of jewelry, including her wedding band, had been taken.

Police said Tuesday's incident was not the only burglary detectives in Ocoee that authorities are investigating.

On Sunday afternoon, two men broke through window on a home on Prairie Oaks Court before climbing through and grabbing the keys to a Mercedes, police said.

"We sent officers, but prior to our arrival the subject had left," the deputy police chief said.

He added the homeowners did everything they could to deter burglars because their house had a home security system that includes an alarm that went off and security cameras that captured the men.

Police have asked that anyone with information about the robbery call the Ocoee Police Department at 407-905-3160.
