ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A federal jury found an Orlando pharmacist guilty of 1 count of conspiracy to distribute and dispense oxycodone outside the usual course of professional practice and without a legitimate medical purpose and 10 counts of dispensing and distributing oxycodone outside the usual course of professional practice and without a legitimate medical purpose, according to the U.S. State Attorney’s Office.

Valentine Okonkwo, 54, is alleged to have dispensed more than 500,000 oxycodone pills and collected $1.3 million from illegal oxycodone sales.

Okonkwo is alleged to have accepted fraudulent prescriptions from patients at his pharmacy, known as the Avalon Park Pharmacy, according to officials.

The pharmacy led the surrounding area in oxycodone distribution, including major retail pharmacies, officials said.

Officials reported many of the oxycodone pills were purchased for up to $15 per pill on the streets.

Okonkwo also is alleged to have had sex with customers who used the fraudulent prescriptions at his business, the release continues.

He faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for each count.

His hearing is set for June 22.
