FHP releases audio from Turnpike deaths of woman, daughter

The Florida Highway Patrol has released dispatch audio recordings from a mysterious hazmat situation where a woman and her young daughter were found dead.

On June 2, a trooper came across a white Porsche Cayenne that appeared to have crashed into a guardrail near mile marker 224 on Florida's Turnpike.

Inside the vehicle, he saw Latifa Lincoln, 46, and her three-year-old daughter Maksmilla unresponsive.
"We have one female that appears she's not breathing in the vehicle," the trooper said.  "She also has a child in here.  We're going to  have to break the window.  They got it locked."

During a rescue attempt, the trooper told a dispatcher that there was a chemical odor coming from inside.
"There's some kind of strong smell coming out  of the vehicle.  We're not  sure what's coming out of there," the trooper said.  "They're not  able to get in with the smell that's coming (out)."

The audio recordings continue to document the response by law enforcement, who were affected by the substance.

"We're just starting to feel some of the effects back here and we're about 150 to  200 feet back," a trooper said.

Two Osceola County deputies and a trooper were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released.

A spokesperson for the Medical Examiner's office said the autopsies for Lincoln and her daughter have been completed, but a cause of death will not be determined until laboratory results are complete.
