FLALGER COUNTY, Fla. – The sheriff of Flagler County could soon be forced to pay up for allegedly violating state ethics laws.
According to The Daytona Beach News Journal, the state has suggested $19,000 in civil penalties, as well as public censure and reprimand for Sheriff Jim Manfre.

The Governor For Ethics Violations made the suggestion after the state's ethics commission ruled that Manfre violated laws when he used sheriff's office vehicles for out of town trips.
Manfre is also accused of accepting gifts without properly reporting them.
Attorneys for the sheriff say Manfre relied on legal counsel and was unaware he was violating any laws.
