Florida man accused of killing gators for Super Bowl dinner

Richard Nixie arrested in Volusia County

DeBARY, Fla. – A Volusia County man was arrested on allegations of killing five small alligators for his Super Bowl dinner.

Richard Nixie, 30, of DeBary, was arrested Sunday afternoon on charges of possession and taking alligators without a proper tag.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials say Nixie admitted to trapping alligators less than 5 feet in length and cutting off their tails for his Super Bowl dinner.

A neighbor called the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and FWC and told them about Nixie. He said he saw Nixie skinning the alligators on his front porch.

Officials removed a black plastic tub from the back of the home, the neighbor said.

The neighbor told Local 6 News that Nixie possibly got the small alligators from Lake Monroe, which is just miles from his home.

Nixie was released from the Volusia County Jail after posting $500 bond.

Nixie is scheduled to appear in court March 3.
