Deputy was supervising 30 inmates when he hurt hand

ORLANDO, Fla. – A Marion County deputy farm work crew officer was hurt on Tuesday while working on a University of Florida research farm.

Deputies said Mike Joyner was working at the Plant Science Research & Education Unit at the University of Florida when he seriously hutr his hand while using farm equipment. He was then taken to Shands at the University of Florida - a teaching hospital at the college, according to the release.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office has an agreement with the university where the sheriff's office supplies inmate trustees to help with farm work and maintenance, and in return, some of the food is donated to the jail and fed to the inmates.

According to the report from the sheriff's office, Joyner was supervising 30 inmates working at the farm on Tuesday.

Joyner's condition hasn't been released.
