Surveillance video catches woman stealing power tools

Ocoee man says he bought tools for hurricane clean-up

OCOEE, Fla. – Police are searching for a woman seen in surveillance video stealing power tools and electronics from a man's garage while he was at work.

Chris Wilson told News 6 he noticed his tools were missing when he returned to his home on Lakeview Drive in Ocoee, and immediately checked his surveillance video for any clues.

His video shows a woman walking up to his front door around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When no one answers the door, you can see her walk to his backyard, where she walks into his garage and starts collecting items.

"The camera, which I'm surprised she didn't see, was right in plain sight. You can see it," he said. "It captured her taking things, picking them up and going in the (and) around the garage and taking what she wanted."

Wilson said the tools she stole were worth about $1,300, and that he bought them to clean up his yard from debris left by Hurricane Matthew.

"She only took the stuff she knew she could easily sell," he said.

Wilson said he wanted to help Ocoee police search for the woman, so after he called the department, he posted his surveillance video on a website.

He posted links to his website on Facebook and other social media channels.

Wilson said several people have made comments.

Ocoee police told News 6 they've gotten several leads because of the sharpness of the video.

If you recognize the woman seen in the video, you're asked to call Ocoee police at 407-905-3160.
