Cops: DeLand man arrested after stealing to feed cocaine addiction

Man stole nearly $3,000 in items from business, deputies say

DeLAND, Fla. – A man arrested on allegations of stealing from a machinery business was trying to feed his cocaine addiction, according to Volusia County deputies.

Lance Odom, 43, was arrested on charges of burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and violation of the scrap metal act in the Tuesday theft from S&B Machinery in DeLand.

Deputies say a total value of nearly $3,000 in items was stolen, including a plasma cutter, generator, batteries, angle grinders, welding cables and scrap metal. Surveillance video at the business showed that the burglary took about three hours and that a muddy pickup truck was involved.

Deputies say they discovered Odom by visiting local second-hand metal dealers and finding the items. While at Central Florida Recycling, deputies spotted Odom pulling into the parking lot and arrested him.

He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $20,000 bond.
