FWC to set traps after video shows close encounter with bear

Bear walked up to woman in Longwood driveway

LONGWOOD, Fla. – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is trying to trap a bear that was spotted in the Markham Woods area of Seminole County.

Video FWC obtained on Tuesday shows a black bear walking up to a woman sitting in her driveway in Longwood, with his snout up close to her iPhone.

FWC said it wants the bear to serve as a warning about close encounters, saying it highlights a major concern with animals.

FWC said once the bear is trapped, officials will "assess and take the most appropriate action to ensure public safety."

The bear on the video is the second bear sighting in the area this week.

The FWC released this video today of a human having a close encounter with a large black bear in Seminole County. This bear, they report, has lost its fear of humans most likely because it's learned food is available in this area. Stay safe and be aware!
