Gas prices jump in Central Florida

Orlando-area stations see 20-cent increase this week

ORLANDO, Fla. – AAA on Friday released new numbers that show the average price across Florida is $2.18 for a gallon of regular.

That's two cents higher than the national average.

Some stations have had prices jump 20 cents since the beginning of the week.

A week ago, Central Florida prices were hovering just below $2 per gallon. A year ago, however, gas was $3.25 in the Orlando area.

Experts say the price increase is because a lot of refineries have shut down, which is typical this time of year as they switch from the winter blend to the summer blend of gas.

According to the Wall Street Journal, stockpiles of oil are at a record high and -- for now -- another huge spike in prices is not expected.
