LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Gov. Rick Scott announced on Friday that Eduardo "Eddie" Fernandez has been appointed as the Orange County clerk of courts.
Fernandez, 33, of Orlando, has practiced with Shutts Bowen LLP since 2006.

The appointment comes after four inmates were mistakenly released from a Florida prison on forged paperwork.
Scott made the announcement at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Lake Buena Vista at noon.
"I am excited today to announce Eddie as the next clerk of courts in Orange County," Scott said. "Eddie's reputation as a problem solver and respected member of the Orlando community makes him a great fit to serve the families of Orange County. I look forward to working with him as we continue making Florida the best state in the nation to live and raise a family."
Fernandez, who received his bachelor's and master of business degrees from Rollins College and his law degree from the University of Florida, has been a member of various civic and community organizations, such as the Orange County Bar Association, the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund of Florida and the Central Florida Partnership.
Fernandez succeeds Colleen Reilly, who has served on an interim basis following the passing of Lydia Gardner. Fernandez was appointed for a term beginning January 27 and ending November 11.
