VIERA, Fla. – Just days before an alleged deputy killer's first-degree murder trial, he had his final motion hearing Thursday afternoon.
Brandon Bradley, 24, told the judge Thursday that he didn't want to plead guilty in the killing of Brevard County Sheriff's Deputy Barbara Pill.
The defense also argued several motions regarding Bradley's trial and decided not to file a motion to suppress evidence in the case.
The judge gave the state and defense instructions about the upcoming trial and jury selection. Fifty-three potential jurors will be cut down to 12, with three alternates. The state hopes to have jury selection finished by Friday of next week.
"We're ready to go. Looking forward to getting this case in the hands of the jury and letting justice take its course," said Assistant State Attorney Tom Brown.
Meanwhile, Bradley's co-defendant, Andrea Kerchner, took a plea deal last month and in exchange she will become a state witness and testify against her then-boyfriend Brandon Bradley.
Prosecutors said Bradley shot and killed Pill during a traffic stop in March of 2012 and Kerchner was the passenger.
If a jury convicts Bradley of first-degree murder, he could face the death penalty.
Jury selection starts Monday, Feb. 24.
