‘What is going on!?’ Man Tasered during police chase at Orlando shopping mall

Nathaniel Orozco, 25, faces charges of grand theft and resisting arrest

Nathaniel Orozco, 25 (Orlando Police Department)

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was Tasered and arrested on Friday following a police chase from an Orlando shopping mall, according to the police department.

In a release, police said that a stolen car, which was reported a day prior, had been seen at the International Drive Outlet Mall.

The driver — later identified as Nathaniel Orozco, 25 — was spotted getting out of the car and walking to a nearby building, though police soon followed and ordered him to stop, the release shows.

However, Orozco instead fled from the police, prompting an officer to fire a Taser at Orozco twice — though it wasn’t enough to incapacitate him, investigators said.

Video released by the department shows that police continued to run after Orozco, eventually tackling him to the ground.

“What is going on!?” Orozco can be heard asking in the video.

In a later interview with detectives, Orozco claimed that a friend had let him borrow the stolen vehicle, and he explained that he ran away because he didn’t know the officers were law enforcement agents, an arrest affidavit says.

“Orozco said he didn’t see our uniforms. I pointed out that there was a marked police vehicle with us, and that we yelled ‘POLICE STOP!’ but Orozco maintained that he didn’t know we were the police, even after being hit by multiple Taser probes,” the affidavit reads.

Orozco faces charges of resisting arrest and grand theft of a motor vehicle. He is held on a bond of $1,500 for those charges.
