Pilot walks away from plane crash in Lake George State Forest, sheriff’s office says

Cessna 172 loses power before going down in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A plane crashed early Friday deep in the Lake George State Forest, but the pilot was reportedly already up and walking by the time first responders got to him, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 1:49 a.m., with the nearest address to it appearing to be along Marsh Road near Pierson.

The pilot was the only person on board and suffered minor injuries, the sheriff’s office said on social media, describing the aircraft as a 1967 Cessna 172 that was traveling to DeLand from Slidell, Louisiana.

The Cessna lost power before going down, the post states.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have been notified, according to the sheriff’s office.

No other details have been shared or confirmed.
