Domestic violence call becomes officer-involved shooting in Melbourne, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man was shot early Thursday morning after finding two suspected burglars in his Melbourne home, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Police responded around 12:30 a.m. to the 2600 block of Coventry Road, where they found the victim on the front porch with several gunshot wounds.

According to police, the victim and two other people had left the home briefly and upon returning home, the victim walked inside and found two “unknown suspects.” The victim was immediately shot and as the suspects were fleeing, they fired off several more shots.

Police said this was not a random act and everyone involved was an adult.

The victim is expected to recover from their injuries.

The Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Melbourne Police Department.
