Weapon threat prompts temporary lockdown at New Smyrna Beach High School

Middle school initially placed on lockdown, but hold has since been lifted

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A report of someone bringing a weapon to campus caused New Smyrna Beach High School to temporarily be placed on a lockdown on Tuesday.

The middle and high schools were placed on lockdown around noon on Tuesday, though the hold has since been lifted on the middle school.

Around 1:25 p.m., the lockdown at the high school was downgraded to a hold.

New Smyrna Beach police announced about an hour later that the hold was lifted and that all students and staff are safe.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
