Firefighters adopt puppies saved from hot car at Disney Springs

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Three puppies have new homes after being adopted by the first responders who rescued them from Disney Springs.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said they were called to reports of dogs in a hot car at Disney Springs on Saturday evening.

Investigators said the owner of the vehicle told them he purchased the puppies just hours prior and the family was enjoying a 90-minute dinner at Disney Springs.

One of the puppies died as a result; three others survived.

Firefighters Ben Whitley, Leonardo Rojas and John Harvey responded to the call and have now each adopted one of the surviving puppies.

“First thing is anger because you can’t comprehend how a human can do this to puppies,” Rojas said.

“Leo and I went to animal control to just check up on these three and see how they were doing and happened to run up on the investigator that was working the case, and it kind of started this whole conversation,” Whitley said.

The crew said a veterinarian from Animal Kingdom also came in to help save the puppies.

The puppies are described to be full of energy.

“Well, it’s a puppy, pure chaotic. Get your 15 minutes of nap time in and 45 minutes of playtime,” Harvey said.
