ORLANDO, Fla. – The Mexican Consul in Orlando said on Wednesday that the employer of the migrant workers involved in Tuesday’s fatal crash have stopped responding to their questions.
Consul Juan Sabines spoke to a group honoring the lives of the eight people lost at a vigil held at the Farmworkers Association office in Apopka.
“They came from Mexico, live with the same people as their farm workers. Their family is in Mexico,” Sabines said.
There were 40 others injured in the crash. Sabines confirmed everyone involved was an H-2A Visa holder. This allows workers from Mexico to travel to the U.S. and work in agriculture.

“This is proof the reason is not the immigrant situation. It’s the alcohol and drugs and drivers,” Sabines said. “Maybe they don’t understand the reality of the immigrants because for applying on an application for H-2A, you have to fill out a lot of things.”
Sabines also said he’s requesting the next of kin be allowed to travel to the U.S. to identify the victims.
The Farmworkers Association said it plans to continue offering assistance to the farm workers who are involved.
