Hospital placed on lockdown after shooting

APOPKA, Fla. – A man is recovering in the hospital after he was robbed and shot while standing in his front yard, according to Orange County deputies.

The robbery and shooting happened after 11 p.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Grimke Avenue.

Deputies say two men approached the victim and held him at gunpoint while demanding cash.

At some point during the robbery the victim was shot at least once.  The culprits then fled the area in an unknown vehicle, according to deputies.

Deputies say the victim returned fire after being shot, but it's not known if he struck either of the assailants.

After the shooting, the victim was taken by his son to Florida Hospital Apopka, which was temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Deputies have not released a description of the culprits.
