George Zimmerman attorney cancels Viera visit

Mark O'Mara was scheduled to receive an award from Republican group

VIERA, Fla. – Local 6 news partner Florida Today is reporting that Mark O'Mara, the attorney who successfully defended George Zimmerman against a murder charge in the death of Trayvon Martin, has cancelled a speaking event in Viera.

O'Mara was scheduled to accept an award from the Republican Liberty Caucus at the organization's annual Constitution Day dinner on Saturday in Viera. But his office confirmed late last week that O'Mara had been double booked, and wouldn't be able to make the date.

"He felt terrible about it, he's committed to us he wants to come to Brevard County," event organizer Bob White said. "…We're going to plan another event with Mark either later this year or early next year."

The event will go on, featuring speaker Michael Boldin, founder of the 10th Amendment Center. The award O'Mara would have received – the "Jefferson Cup" – will be held for whenever he does make a local appearance, White said.
