Arson suspected in Orlando fires

Orlando Fire Department investigate 12 fires over course of 2 months

ORLANDO, Fla. – Firefighters are investigating 12 different fires in Orlando that ignited in the last two months at various vacant homes.

Three fires were reported in the Thorton Park area of Orlando late Saturday night. One fire was reported at a vacant home on Christor Place, off Summerlin Avenue. A short time later, another fire broke out just north of the first fire on Park Lake Court.

A third fire was on Jefferson and Hill avenues near Howard Middle School. The smoke from that fire was so bad, smoke from the fire set off alarms at the school, officials said.

Investigators were talking on Monday afternoon with a neighbor who may have caught something related to the fire on her surveillance camera near the middle school.

Firefighters are now working to see if the fires were intentionally set and if they are connected.

The arson fires come a month after seven fires were reported in the same area in June. Three fires were reported on Washington Street, one on North Thornton Avenue, one on Montana Street, one on Pinegrove Avenue and one on East Colonial Drive.

It's not clear if they're all related to each other or the recent fires. Orlando Fire Department is investigating a total of 12 fires and think they could possibly be related to eight fires reported in Sanford in July.

Seven of the fires in Sanford were reported at vacant homes and one was set at Little Red School House.
