Driver stabbed in road rage attack, Orange County deputies say

Suspect accused of stabbing man multiple times

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orange County man is facing attempted murder charges after, according to deputies, he violently attacked a driver.

The incident happened Monday night at the intersection of Curry Ford Road and Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando.

Deputies said the victim, identified as David Gillis, was sitting in his vehicle when a man approached his car and broke the the driver-side window.  Gillis was then stabbed several times in the face, neck and arm, according to a sheriff's report.

Gillis was eventually able to fight off the suspect, who fled the scene, deputies said.

Gillis was taken to a hospital, but his condition is not known.

A witness at the scene observed the suspect get into a black pickup truck and recorded the tag number, and detectives said Gillis was able to identify the suspect, Jon Spengler, during a photo lineup.

Spengler, 46, was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Orange County Jail on attempted second-degree murder charges.

Deputies said that Spengler confessed to the attack.

The exact motive for the attack is not known.
