ORLANDO, Fla. – Mirror, mirror on the ... app?
A new app that claims to rate the ugliness of individuals after scanning their faces has created a controversy.
The Ugly Meter app, developed by two Arizona men, scans the user's face and rates his or her attractiveness.
The program rates ugliness based on facial features, such as the size of a nose or the distance between someone's eyes.
"How you do your hair and whether you have a beard or not, those things don't matter," said Ugly Meter creator Jo Overline. "This is facial structure, so, unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it. You are what you are."
Critics say the app is offensive and inappropriate, but the creators say the app is meant to be fun and it shouldn't be taken seriously.
The regular version of the app costs 99 cents, while an upgraded version is $5.

The app is available for iPhones and Androids.
