UCF head coach George O'Leary names new starting quarterback

Redshirt freshman will lead Knights against Penn State

ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF head football coach George O'Leary named Pete DiNovo as the team's starting quarterback for the Knights' opening game against Penn State.

Pete DiNovo, 20, will fill the starting spot left vacant by Blake Bortles, the No. 3 overall NFL draft pick who now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

DiNovo earned the top spot after a lengthy competition with Justin Holman, Tyler Harris and Nick Patti.

DiNovo enrolled early at UCF and was in camp last spring.  However, he has yet to take a single snap in a college football game.

UCF's first game is scheduled for Aug. 30. versus Penn State in Dublin, Ireland.
