Cops say man charged with child neglect after boy left alone for hour

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orange County man has been charged with child neglect after deputies say he left a 2-year-old boy alone in an apartment for over an hour.

Franklin Capellan, 22, was arrested on Tuesday after a maintenance worker found the child unattended inside of an apartment at the Village Townhomes, according to a report.

Deputies said the maintenance worker was hired to fix items inside of the apartment and heard a child crying from an upstairs apartment.

The child was found in a bedroom described as "messy" with nothing to drink, deputies said. In the bedroom next to where the child was found, deputies said they found several smoked marijuana blunts and a glass pipe.

Capellan told deputies that he had left the child with a man named "Tony" and went to the gas station. Deputies couldn't locate a man named Tony.

Deputies said Capellan then stopped cooperating with officers and refused to sign his statement.

Capellan was taken to Orange County Jail at 11:30 a.m. on $1,000 bond.
