Man accidentally shot self in road rage incident, Orlando police say

OPD turns investigation over to Seminole County sheriff's deputies

ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities say a man accidentally shot himself Monday in a road rage incident on Interstate 4.

Orlando police said officers responded to a call of a shooting at the ramp at I-4 and Princeton Street around 11:30 a.m.  Video showed crime scene tape roping off a white car on the roadway.

According to the driver, he was traveling on I-4 when another driver showed a gun in what he told police was a road rage incident.

The victim, identified as 36-year-old Richard Coles, then said during the altercation he accidentally shot himself in the leg.

Hewas taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Orlando police later said the incident began in Seminole County and the shooting may have occurred in Orange County.  The investigation was turned over to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

No other information was immediately available.
