ORLANDO, Fla. – The trial date for a man accused of hitting an Orlando police officer with a car during a traffic stop has been scheduled for April.
A judge on Wednesday said Edward Kelty's trial will begin April 17.
Kelty is accused of running over Orlando police Officer William Anderson in 2015.
Anderson was attempting to pull over the car that Kelty was driving while responding to a call about shots fired on Kirkman Road on July 13, 2015.
During the traffic stop, Anderson went to the front of the car when a passenger took off running. Police said Kelty then sped up and hit Anderson.
Anderson suffered a traumatic brain injury and damage to his spine that makes it difficult for him to walk.
"He needs to understand what I've been going through on a daily basis. This isn't 10 years worth of injuries. It's permanent," Anderson told News 6 on Wednesday.
Anderson's injuries forced him to retire, and he said he feared that he would not get justice because Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane Burdick offered Kelty a plea deal without his knowledge.
A representative for the state attorney's office, however, said there is no deal on the table.
“She says she didn't make an offer, she only made a statement for 15 years, five mandatory, to the defense attorney. (The) defense attorney thought that was an offer and the defense attorney countered,” Anderson said.

"There's a lot that people don't know that has gone on behind the scenes as far as medical stuff -- evidence they have and can't release, and the only way for it to be known what happened is for this case to go to trial," Anderson said.
