ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 30-year-old Orlando man died Wednesday in a chain-reaction crash after being struck from behind by a speeding pickup truck on State Road 408 in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 6:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of S.R. 408 near mile marker 18.

Troopers said Lester Balibalos died in the four-vehicle wreck.

The FHP said a GMC pickup driven by Victor Jesus Otero, 45, of Winter Park, was heading east on S.R. 408 at a high rate of speed. A Honda, Lexus and BMW were also heading east ahead of the pickup, troopers said.

Otero failed to slow down and the front of the pickup struck the rear of Balibalos' Honda, troopers said. Balibalos was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead, the FHP said.

The pickup overturned, and Otero was taken to ORMC with minor injuries, the FHP said.

Troopers said the front of the Honda was pushed into the rear of the Lexus after the initial impact, and then the Lexus was pushed into the rear of the BMW. The drivers of the Lexus and BMW suffered minor injuries, the FHP said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against Otero.
