Man dresses up like mall worker, burglarizes stores, cops say

Man connected to string of thefts at malls throughout Florida

A man is wanted after Daytona Beach police say he dressed up like an employee and stole money from registers.

Several stores at the Volusia Mall on International Speedway Boulevard were hit in September, including Sarku Japanese restaurant, Journeys, Lids, Zumiez, Cajun Cafe and numerous other businesses.

Police said that when the mall closes, the man goes into the business and takes the cash registers and safes.

"He hits stores systematically, he hit like five stores in one day," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood. "Gets into the safes, then he's out the door. The stores are not alarmed and he just gets out."

Police said the man has been able to pull off the scheme in several cities in Florida, starting it in Miami and hitting stores as far north as Knoxville, Tennessee.

Authorities released surveillance pictures from Orange Park Mall in Jacksonville.
