Woman faces murder charge after man found dead at Orlando apartment

Paula Lynn Hobbs arrested in death of Evertt Leslie Humble

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 51-year-old Orlando woman was arrested after a 63-year-old man was found dead Tuesday evening at an apartment complex, police said.

Orlando police said Paula Lynn Hobbs was arrested early Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Evertt Leslie Humble.

Police said they were called around 6:45 p.m. to the Rosemont County Club apartments on Cinderlane Parkway after gunshots were heard.

A neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, told News 6 she found Humble's body and called 911.

"I just saw the body. I didn't see the head. I saw the bare body with blood and instincts told me, 'Come in the house and lock the door and call police,'" the neighbor said.

Officers said a woman, later identified as Hobbs, was on the back porch near the victim, but she barricaded herself inside the home when they confronted her.

Police said officers called Hobbs out of the apartment and she was taken into custody.

Police said Hobbs was in a relationship with Humble, but they did not release any other details about their relationship.

During the investigation, Hobbs said, "If you tell me he is dead, I will tell you why I did it," according to an arrest affidavit. A motive has not been released.

A .22-caliber revolver with a nine-round capacity was found in the bottom drawer of a dresser in the bedroom, police said. Five of the nine rounds had been fired, according to police.

Records show that Hobbs has been accused of hurting Humble in the past.

The couple was attending a wedding on Aug. 13, 2016, in Pensacola Beach when Hobbs became irate and started to yell at, hit and push Humble, deputies said. She also threw a cup at him, according to a report.

Deputies said Humble was calm and sober when he told them he was DJ'ing when Hobbs attacked him out of nowhere. He said Hobbs might have become violent because she has bipolar disorder and had been drinking.

Hobbs is currently on probation in connection with the August incident.

She's being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.
