Man killed while walking along I-95 in Volusia County

Man ran out of gas, walking to next exit

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Troopers said that an Apopka man ran out of gas and was walking to the next exit on I-95 in Volusia County when he was struck and killed by a car.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that Dean Robbins, 51, of Apopka, had run out of gas along Interstate-95 around mile marker 264 near the LPGA Boulevard exit and was walking in the outside lane, next to the white line, to the exit for help.

Troopers said that Rockil Macon, 39, of New Jersey, was traveling southbound along I-95 when he struck Robbins. 

Robbins died on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
