Man shot by Lake County deputy identified

Man ignored commands to drop knife, Tased before shots fired, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Lake County deputies on Thursday have identified the man who was shot by a Lake County deputy on Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting was reported at Aria Court and Hull Road just before 5 p.m. Wednesday Deputies said they responded to the area earlier to a report of a suicidal person, who was taken to the hospital.

A neighbor tells Local 6 that she heard the gunshot and saw 24-year-old Ian Saum, on the ground. She said Saum was running around with a knife and the officer told him to get down.

Deputies said Saum had injured himself with the knife before they arrived and then confronted deputies in a threatening manner.

Saum ignored several commands to drop the knife, deputies said, prompting a Taser to be used but it appeared to have little or no effect on him.

The deputy then shot Saum, according to LCSO.

It's not clear if the officer was injured.

The incident remains under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
