Man sought after pepper-spraying woman in attempted purse-snatching at Publix

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Altamonte police are searching for the man they say pepper-sprayed a woman and robbed her in a Publix parking lot.

Police said the woman told them she was getting into her vehicle at 9:30 p.m. at the Publix on East Altamonte Drive when a man approached her and asked her for directions to Interstate 4.

As the woman began giving him directions, the man pepper-sprayed her in the face and tried to take her purse from, but couldn't, according to police.

The man ran to a nearby late-model Toyota Camry and drove away. Police described him as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male in his 30s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 190 pounds, with short wavy black hair, wearing a white T-shirt.
