ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol have a man in custody after he barricaded himself inside an Orlando home after carjacking someone and leading police on a chase Sunday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man, identified as Leonard Jerome White, 30, was spotted running alongside State Road 50 acting erratically around 2:15 p.m. Troopers were able to view White on traffic cameras arguing with a woman in a vehicle and pointing a gun at the car.

Troopers said White carjacked the woman's vehicle and left her and her passengers on the side of the road and drove away on the Florida Turnpike at a high rate of speed.

FHP said they attempted to pull White over but he continued on, exiting on Conroy Road and pulling into the Middlebrook Farms Condominiums at 5255 Cypress St., where he fled the car and broke into a unit through a window and barricaded himself.

Troopers said residents who were in the home at the time were able to lock themselves in an upstairs room away from White. Orlando police and the FHP were able to gain access to the second floor and safely remove the residents from the home.

White later surrendered to officials and was taken into custody.

Charges against White are pending.
