ORLANDO, Fla. – A day after deputies said a 15-year-old girl's shooting death was accidental, a manslaughter charge has been filed in connection with her death.

The body of Melanie Mesen Medina, 15, was found dumped near Ziegler Road in Orlando on April 11.  Ramsys Javier Cruz Abreu, 22, was arrested less than two days after her death on a charge of tampering with evidence.

Deputies said he was driving his car with Medina and a 16-year-old girl inside when Medina was shot in the neck. Cruz Abreu told deputies he helped the teen dump her friend's body near the road.

Officials said Thursday that the 16-year-old girl, whose name has not been released, would not face any charges in connection with Medina's death.

"OCSO Homicide detectives have determined the death of Melanie Medina was an accident," deputies said. "No charges will be filed against the 16-year-old girl who was in a vehicle with Medina prior to her death."

Deputies announced Friday that charges of manslaughter, possession of cannabis and unlawful disposal of human remains had been filed against Cruz Abreu.

Details on why these charges were filed have not been released.
