Evergreen Elementary teacher on leave after classroom incident

Incident reported at Evergreen Elementary

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A fifth-grade teacher at Evergreen Elementary is on paid administrative leave as of Friday morning.

Kevin Christian, with the Marion County school board, said a parent raised concerns about their child's well-being yesterday.

Marion County sheriff officials were alerted of the incident by school administrators.

Deputies told News 6 they have spoken to the school's principal, the child involved and the child's mother.

“This employee started with Marion County Public Schools in August 2015,” Kevin Christian, Marion County Public Schools' public relations officer, said.

The teacher, who works at Evergreen Elementary School, was placed on leave on Friday pending an investigation.

News 6 requested the teacher's personnel file.

There are no previous incident reports.

A letter from Evergreen Elementary last February recommended her to the superintendent for reappointment for the 2016-2017 school year.

The employee began as a third grade teacher.

According to the personnel file, before the teacher worked for Marion County schools they taught in Gainesville for two years.
