Court hearing set for Markeith Loyd

Man accused of killing Orlando police officer

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton is expected to attend a court hearing later this week.

Markeith Loyd has refused to accept a public defender and will represent himself.

According to the Orange County Clerk of Courts, a hearing has now been set for Thursday morning to figure out how his case will move forward.

Loyd's niece, Lakensha Smith-Loyd, will also return to a courtroom Thursday. She was arrested on charges of helping Loyd avoid capture. Now that her uncle is in jail, her lawyer is asking for her bond to be lowered from $750,000.
