Missing woman's remains found after estranged husband arrested, FBI says

Last seen in Ormond Beach, Rachael Madison's remains found near Knoxville

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The remains of a missing Indiana woman who was staying with her family in Ormond Beach have been found after a search spanning multiple states, according to the FBI.

Rachael Madison, 44, was reported missing by Thelma Newsom, her aunt, on Nov. 27 after she didn’t come home from a jog.

Newsom said her niece moved to the Ormond Beach area just before Thanksgiving in an effort to get away from her abusive husband.

"I'm afraid he has abducted her," Newsom said in a 911 call. "He shot at her (in an earlier incident in Indiana)."

Jarvis Madison, 58, was taken into custody Friday morning in Kentucky, but his wife was not with him, according to the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in Louisville.

After Jarvis Madison was taken into custody by Indiana State Police, he gave police information leading investigators to a remote area off I-40 near Knoxville, Tennessee, where Rachael’s remains were found Friday evening, FBI Public affairs specialist Amanda Warford Videll said.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the FBI are with Ms. Madison's family, and we remain committed to finding answers through our ongoing investigation," FBI Special Agent Charles Spencer said in a press release. "We appreciate the assistance of our law enforcement partners, including the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, FBI Knoxville, FBI Louisville, U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and the Indiana State Police."

Evidence from the site were processed to positively confirm Madison's remains, according to the FBI. Officials confirmed the remains belonged to Madison on Monday.

Madison is being held without bond in the Clark County jail.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is continuing to work with state law enforcement and the FBI.
