Mom who drove kids into ocean moved from Orange jail to Volusia jail

Attorneys say mother suffered 'psychotic episode'

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The mom who drove her kids into the ocean was moved from the Orange County Jail to Volusia County.

Prosecutors said Ebony Wilkerson violated the terms of her conditional release to a mental health facility in Lake Wales.

Wilkerson made national headlines in 2014 when she was pregnant and drove her SUV into the ocean with her kids inside.

The State Attorney's Office claims Wilkerson is not getting the treatment at the facility like she is suppose to and she is not living there.

Prosecutors add she also caused some kind of incident last week at the facility and police were called out.

Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested Wilkerson Wednesday. The State Attorney's Office would not say how or why she was in Orange County.

Wilkerson is booked in the Orange County Jail and is waiting for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to pick her up.

The mother had her first appearance Thursday morning. The judge says Volusia deputies have 72 hours to get her and the weekend does not count so she could be in jail for a while.

News 6 spoke to Wilkerson's attorney, but he had no comment.

A hearing is scheduled for next week to review her case, including the new allegations of violating the terms of her conditional release.
