New video released in excessive force investigation

Marion County sheriff to hold press conference after former deputy indicted

OCALA, Fla. – Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair held a news conference Thursday after a grand jury indicted one of his former deputies.

"We're not gonna let the actions of these individuals destroy the reputation of the Marion County sheriffs office," Blair said.

His comments come after new video was released by the State Attorneys Office, showing  a drug suspect's arrest in 2014.

The video appears to show Derrick Price, 33, surrendering, but investigators say he was then badly hurt after being punched, kneed and kicked.

Former Deputy Jesse Terrell, 33, is now charged with violating Price's civil rights.

"These are individual choices that these individuals had to make," Blair said. "They made that choice on that date. Certainly it was the wrong decision. Not the right thing to do. We're certainly not going to tolerate it here at the Marion County Sheriffs Office."

Four other deputies seen in the video all pleaded guilty in federal court and either resigned or were fired.

They're now awaiting sentencing.

Terrell now faces up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.
