Ocoee purse-snatching victim wants boy tried as adult

Charlotte Dunaway says she's still bruised, has dizzy spells

OCOEE, Fla. – A day after Ocoee police arrested a 14-year-old in a violent purse-snatching, the victim told Local 6 that she wants the boy tried as an adult.

Charlotte Dunaway, 74, suffered major injuries when, according to police, Gary Cox slammed her to the ground in an attempt to grab her purse August 15 inside an Ocoee Publix.

"The injuries I sustained from what he did to me are every bit as serious as they would have been if he were a 35-year-old man," she said.

Dunaway told Local 6 she's relieved Cox was arrested but worries he'll be back on the street soon.

"Maybe if he has some time in jail then he could reform his life," said Dunaway.

Police said Cox confessed to the crime.  He has been charged with other crimes in Orange County, Orlando and Ocoee, according to police.

Meanwhile, Dunaway, who is still bruised from the attack, said she still suffers from dizzy spells.

Local 6 asked the State Attorney's Office if it would charge the teen as an adult, but a representative said the office does not comment on pending charging decisions.
