Cops: Man shoots, kills intruder during Orange County home invasion

2nd culprit shows up at hospital with gunshot wound, officials say

ORLANDO, Fla. – One suspect was shot and killed and another was wounded Tuesday morning in a home invasion in Orange County, deputies said.

The armed home invasion was reported at 10:47 a.m. at 6109 Perrine Drive near Meadowbrook Middle School in Orlando.

Orange County sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Watrel said two men broke into the home and put a gun to 50-year-old Dawn Marie Gentry's head.

Deputies said the woman's 24-year-old son, Geno Alexander Davis, came to her aid and shot the men. One of the men, later identified as Rasheen Hall Briggs, 24, collapsed and died in the front yard.

The other man showed up at Winter Park Memorial Hospital about 20 minutes later, Watrel said. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

The woman and her son were shaken but not injured, deputies said.

"Our homicide team is here. We are conducting a criminal investigation," Watrel said, adding that the shooting was in self-defense.

She said Briggs and the other man who was shot both had weapons on them.

Johnny Davis, the older brother of Geno Alexander Davis, said his family did not know the men who broke into the home. He said the gun his brother used in the shooting is registered.

He speculated that Tuesday morning's incident was a robbery gone wrong.

"People want $10 and something to smoke, pop a little molly, get some alcohol, you know, that's child's play" Johnny Davis said.

Neighbor Victoria Escontrias agreed that the family keeps to themselves. She was shocked to hear news of a shooting in a usually quiet neighborhood, but added that she believes her children would have defended her in the same way.

"I don't want to say you get what you deserve, but you just don't run up on nobody's house," Escontrias said.

A different neighbor, who didn't want to be named, said the area has been plagued by crime recently. She said her car has been stolen and her house has been broken into multiple times.

"We call the police several times and they don't say anything. They just say it's a little fry. They don't care what goes on here because it's Pine Hills. They don't care," she said.
